Griesemann Gruppe receives order for first LOHC dehydrogenation plant from Hydrogenious LOHC
The Griesemann Gruppe has been commissioned by Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies to plan and implement the FEED and EPCM for the first industrial LOHC dehydrogenation plant in Bavaria.
Innovative hydrogen project in Vohburg an der Donau
The Bayernoil refinery in Vohburg an der Donau is home to the first so-called release plant, where hydrogen that was previously securely bound to a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) is released again. This allows green hydrogen to be supplied exactly where it is needed – safely, efficiently, and on an industrial scale.

Griesemann Gruppe as engineering partner
Following a successful tender process, the Griesemann Gruppe was selected as the competent engineering partner for the FEED phase. The engineering team from Leipzig will take over project management for the FEED engineering and the subsequent EPCM phase.
The FEED phase is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026 and will form the basis for the final investment decision (FID). Once a positive investment decision has been made for the “Green Hydrogen @ Blue Danube” project, the construction and assembly phase will follow immediately. Commissioning is planned for mid-2028.
LOHC technology for secure hydrogen supply
The plants are based on Hydrogenious’ patented LOHC technology, which uses benzyltoluene (LOHC-BT) as a carrier material. This enables hydrogen to be stored and transported safely, efficiently, and flexibly. Storage takes place in a storage plant, while transport is carried out using existing tank and logistics infrastructures. In the new dehydrogenation plant in Vohburg, the hydrogen is separated from the LOHC again and released for industrial applications.
